Study Description

As part of the RTA's Regional Transit Signal Priority Integration Plan, the City of Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) conducted the study which involved feasibility, preliminary design, and operational test plans for transit signal priority (TSP) treatment along Western Avenue between 59th Street and 87th Street. Undertaken in partnership with the RTA, CTA, and Pace Suburban Bus, this study included a review of previous TSP-related projects and an inventory of existing traffic and transit conditions along the study corridor. Investigations of applicable technologies, traffic operations, a concept design and preliminary system architecture for the pilot project was also conducted. The final report includes functional requirements, an operational test plan, preliminary cost estimates, and an outline for a draft intergovernmental agreement to support implementation and testing.
